Participatory Rural Development Initiatives Society (PRDIS) is a non-government organization (NGO) promoted by a group of professionals. Holistic and sustainable developments are the twin objectives of PRDIS. Participation, Partnership, Empowerment and Innovation are the guiding principles of PRDIS for eradicating poverty and creating a civil society. The growth and development of PRDIS has been phenomenal through its committed endeavors aimed at the upliftment of rural poor and downtrodden in implementation of creative interventions with utmost care and concern for the past Nine years. This could be possible certainly on account of the efforts of its President Prof. S.Venku Reddy with the unflinching support of his team of in-house professional consultants. As a result, the PRDIS has now attained the stature of a Nodal NGO in the country among the other few within the competence of CAPART, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, New Delhi. Furthermore, PRDIS had the rare honor of having audience with H.E the then president of India, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam and received a memento as a token of appreciation of its efforts for sustainable Agriculture development. PRDIS has income tax exemption under 80G and 12 A and a Permanent Account Number (PAN) for income tax.
The PRDIS staff members have 10-30 years of experience in the fields of Participatory Approaches, Community mobilization, Gender, Agriculture, Health, Disability, HIV/AIDS, Education and Natural Resource Management. At field level, community organizers and volunteers are identified for implementation of several activities. Most of the staff are trained in Village Level Participatory Approach (VLPA) and were involved in its implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
Having made considerable strides in undertaking several rural development projects successfully to ensure sustainable and over all development of farming community, including the downtrodden. PRDIS continues to play a pioneering role in establishing transparency in the implementation of various developmental programmes of the Ministry of Rural Development through District Level Monitoring Programmes.
Accelerated Sustainable Agricultural Development in many parts of Andhra Pradesh is constrained due to inadequate Extension Services and lack of timely availability of quality inputs. It is envisaged by the Ministry of Agriculture (Directorate of Agriculture) there by outsourcing the private Agricultural Extension Services Providers and / or by public – private partnership initiative, the desired goals can be achieved in terms of enhancing the productivity and production. Therefore, the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Andhra Pradesh desired to implement the initiative as a pilot project in Bhoothpur mandal of Mahaboobnagar district during the Rabi, 2007-2008 season through PRDIS.
Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) is an important extension reforms concept in India. It was started right from 2000 AD onwards. Its activities are operating in 22 districts in the country. By recognizing the expertise of PRDIS, recently department of Agriculture, Government of Andhra Pradesh had a MoU for Monitoring and Evaluation of ATMA activities in districts of the Andhra Pradesh.
IFAD assisted Chattisgarh Tribal Development Programme (CTDP) entered into an agreement with Participatory Rural Development Initiatives Society (PRDIS), Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh to provide financial contribution in support of organizing Farmer Field Schools to promote activities which generate sustainable increase in production and productivity of land and water resources.
As a nodal agency, we have successfully organized the eleventh batch-training programme of Agriclinics and agribusiness schemes to the unemployed agricultural graduates of Farm Universities in succession and trained 320 agripreneurs so far.
The District Level Monitoring of welfare programmes of MoRD, GOI, including TSC and Swajaladhara were completed at the allotted districts of Andhra Pradesh from 2002 to 2007 besides successfully completed the Gram Panchayats Survey for Nirmal Gram Puraskar in 30 GPs in Andhra Pradesh and 126 GPs of Karnataka.
Organization of Farmer Field Schools (FFS) on cotton IPM in Mahabubnagar district assumed greater significance as an ‘ongoing activity’ of the PRDIS with an everlasting impact even at Karnataka, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand States as well.
As a nodal NGO, PRDIS has completed first batch training programme out four batches of six months duration for period of two years to the rural youth comprising a male and female each per village to cover all the 93 villages in four selected mandals of Mahabubnagar Districts, in addition to establishing District and Block Level Headquarters Offices of PRDIS to extensively serve the poor and downtrodden.
We have also completed “Random Sample Survey of Habitations” in Andhra Pradesh and verification of Gram Panchayats in Karnataka State for recommending to Nirmal Gram Puraskar Award on behalf of Department of Drinking Water Supply (DDWS), Ministry of Rural Development, GOI. The PRDIS now stands as one of the premier organizations for conducting Monitoring, Evaluation and Studies in the Country. The annual turnover of the Organization is about 70 lakhs.
